Tandem t:slim X2 - Basal-IQ Technology Software Update Click here

t:slim X2™ Insulin Pump with Control-IQ™ Technology

Coming soon to New Zealand !

Control-IQ™ technology is the latest remote software update for your Tandem t:slim X2 insulin pump.

Trying to keep your blood sugar in range can be stressful and time consuming. The Control-IQ advanced hybrid closed-loop technology on the t:slim X2 insulin pump can make it easier by predicting and helping to prevent lows AND highs.

Control-IQ uses Dexcom G6 continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) values to predict glucose levels 30 minutes ahead and automatically adjusts insulin to help increase time in range (3.9 – 10 mmol/L).* Dexcom G6 is the first real-time, integrated continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system requiring ZERO fingerpricks for calibration or mealtime dosing.^

Designed to help lighten the burden of diabetes management and offer more time in a healthy glucose level range, Control-IQ aims at making it easier to live with T1 diabetes.

Tandem t:slim X2 Insulin Pump is funded for eligible patients through Pharmac.  Click here to view Pharmac Funding Criteria for insulin pumps

The Control-IQ™ software update is FREE** if you have an in-warranty Tandem t:slim X2 pump AND have subscribed to our Dexcom 360 Programme for Dexcom G6 Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) at the time of the launch.

Key Features

Predictive Technology

Designed to help prevent highs or lows and to increase time in range (3.9 – 10 mmol/L)*, Control-IQ technology predicts glucose values 30 minutes ahead.

Automatic Insulin Adjustments

Control-IQ™ technology automatically adjusts insulin levels based on Dexcom G6 CGM readings.§

Correction Boluses

For added protection, Control-IQ technology can also deliver automatic correction boluses (up to one an hour) to help prevent hyperglycaemia.

Activity Settings

Control-IQ technology includes optional settings for Sleep and Exercise that adjust range of treatment values for more targeted control.

How Control-IQ works

Control-IQ technology predicts glucose values 30 minutes ahead, based on Dexcom G6 CGM readings, and can decrease or stop basal insulin delivery to help prevent lows, or increase basal insulin delivery to help avoid highs.

Control-IQ Status Icon: Icons display on the pump screen to visually indicate when insulin delivery is increasing, decreasing, or stopped. Please refer to the table for a breakdown of status icons.

How Control-IQ works graph

  1. Dexcom G6 CGM integration with the t:slim X2 pump:
  2. Dexcom G6 Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) consists of a tiny sensor inserted just under your skin and transmits real-time glucose readings to your pump or to your compatible smartphone alerting you of upcoming highs and lows. Dexcom G6 requires ZERO fingerpricks for calibration or mealtime dosing.^
  3. Note: The t:simulator™ app lets you experience the touchscreen interface of the t:slim X2™ insulin pump and see a simulation of Control-IQ technology using your smart device.

References and Important Risk Information

*As measured by CGM.
^If your glucose alerts and readings from the G6 do not match symptoms or expectations, use a blood glucose meter to make diabetes treatment decisions.
**Dexcom G6 CGM is required to use the Tandem t:slim X2 insulin pump with Control-IQ Technology.
§Dexcom CGM sold separately. Transmitter can only be paired with one medical device (either a Dexcom receiver or t:slim X2 insulin pump) and one consumer device (phone or tablet) at the same time.
†If glucose values are predicted to be above 10,0 mmol/L, Control-IQ technology calculates a correction bolus using the Personal Profile settings and a target of 6,1 mmol/L and delivers 60% of that value. An Automatic Correction Bolus will not occur within 60 minutes of a bolus that has been delivered or cancelled.
‡ Pricing current as of 10 March 2021 and subject to change without notice. Price per single pump update.
Tandem software updates are only available for in-warranty pumps. Upgrade linked to pump Serial Number and not transferable.

Control-IQ™ technology does not prevent all high and low blood glucose events, and is not a substitute for meal boluses and active self-management of diabetes. Control-IQ technology will not be able to predict sensor glucose values and adjust insulin dosing if a patient’s CGM is not working properly or is unable to communicate with their pump. Patients should be instructed to always pay attention to their symptoms and blood glucose levels and treat accordingly.

The t:slim X2 insulin pump and the t:slim X2 insulin pump with Control-IQ technology are intended for single patient use.
