How to get started on the t:slim X2 insulin pump with Control-IQ+ Technology:
The Tandem t:slim X2 insulin pumps and consumables (cartridges and infusion sets) are fully funded by Pharmac for people living with type 1 diabetes under special authority criteria – a prescription item payment may be charged.** To find out more about the Pharmac Funding Criteria for insulin pumps, click here.
Step 1
Speak to a diabetes specialist team to discuss the eligibility criteria and determine if the Tandem t:slim X2 insulin pump is suitable.
Step 2
The diabetes specialist team will need to apply for a Special Authority. Once approved, a funded prescription will be issued.
Step 3
Prescriptions can be processed by local pharmacies.
Step 4
Your diabetes specialist team will refer you to an NZMS representative to arrange your Tandem pump training. Alternatively, you can reach out to us at NZDiabetesFunding@dexcom.com to arrange it. Once you start on the Tandem t:slim X2 insulin pump you can upgrade to Control-IQ+ as soon as you complete the Control-IQ+ training module and the update form.

How do I upgrade my pump from Control-IQ to Control-IQ+?
The latest software update will be available to you once you log into Tandem Source. You no longer need an Update ID from the NZMS Diabetes team to complete the update.

What does 'updateable software' for the t:slim X2 insulin pump mean?
Updateable software for the t:slim X2 insulin pump allows for a set of changes to the software to update and improve the system. This means that the hardware will remain the same, however the software will be consistently updated over time enhancing the users overall experience.
What is the difference between Basal-IQ and Control-IQ+ technology?
Basal-IQ technology uses Dexcom G6 CGM values to help reduce the frequency and duration of low-glucose events by predicting glucose levels 30 minutes ahead and suspending insulin if they are expected to drop below 4.4 mmol/L.
Control-IQ+ technology utilises the hybrid closed-loop technology that makes it easier to predict glucose levels 30 minutes ahead and automatically adjusting insulin to help increase time in range.‡,2
If I upgrade my t:slim X2 insulin pump software to Control-IQ+ technology, can I revert it back to the old software?
No. Once updated with Control-IQ+ technology, you will not be able to revert your t:slim X2 insulin pump back to the old software. To upgrade your existing in warranty t:slim X2 insulin pump to the latest Control-IQ+ version, speak to your healthcare professional and complete the Control-IQ+ upgrade form found here to get started.
What will it cost to update my t:slim X2 insulin pump with Control-IQ+ software?
For all pumps within the 4-year manufacturers warranty, the Control-IQ+ software update is free of charge. To upgrade your existing in warranty t:slim X2 insulin pump to the latest Control-IQ+ version, speak to your healthcare professional and complete the Control-IQ+ upgrade form found here.
My pump is out of warranty. Can I still update my pump with Control-IQ+ technology?
The software update is only available to in-warranty t:slim X2 insulin pump users. For more information, please contact us at nz.diabetes@dexcom.com.
What is the Sleep Activity setting feature on the t:slim X2 insulin pump?
When the Sleep Activity is enabled, the treatment values are lower and narrower since there are fewer variables that affect glucose values during sleep e.g. you are not eating or exercising. This mode can decrease or stop basal insulin delivery to help prevent lows and highs during sleep.
What is the Exercise Activity setting feature on the t:slim X2 insulin pump?
When Exercise is enabled in the Activity menu, Control-IQ+ technology uses slightly different treatment values in order to adjust basal insulin delivery. The treatment values used when Exercise is enabled are narrower and higher to accommodate the likely natural drop in glucose levels during and following exercising.
How long is the pump warranty for?
Your pump has a limited 4 year warranty from the date of original retail purchase.

What cartridges and infusion sets are used with the t:slim X2 insulin pump?
The t:slim X2 insulin pump is compatible with the t:lock™ cartridge and the following t:lock infusion sets: AutoSoft™ 90, AutoSoft™ 30, TruSteel™ and VariSoft™.
